MIBF 2018 BOOKS: #READERSLIFE EDITION

By Lauren V. Macaraeg #LaurenMacDoodles

One of the best things about being part of the publishing community is that you get to know the real people behind the creation of Philippine books. When I was a nerdy kiddie reader, I viewed authors and illustrators as distant, mythical creatures. It still feels surreal to be able to interact with the talented folks behind the stories and illustrations of books and to have the chance to ask them about the behind-the-scenes moments of the writing and drawing processes. Plus, it’s also fun na makipagkulitan sa ilan sa kanila haha. Of course, another great thing about the publishing world is how we all support each other’s writing and illustrating dreams. Congratulations again to all my fellow author and illustrator friends and colleagues whose books were launched or featured at MIBF 2018! 📖✏️😻🖋️📚

While I wasn’t able to shop for as much books this year as I did during previous MIBFs, due to time and budget constraints, I was able to get several great titles during MIBF 2018. Check out some of the children’s books that I was able to get signed by their authors and illustrators during the 39th Manila International Book Fair last September 14 and 16, 2018 at SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia (MOA), in order of book signings.

Bonus Bookworm Moments:

I got reunited with Ms. Annabelle Salvador, one of my first publishing friends from my first book signing years ago.

I also had an unexpected book signing moment for my first book “Sinemadyika” while visiting friends at the Lampara Books booth.

Last but not least, I was able to take my annual MIBF nerfies (a.k.a. nerdy selfies) with Mama Uni and Cutie the Cat!

It’s been fun reading these new books and classic books that I got during MIBF 2018. I hope to get the chance to read even more quality books by more creative Filipinos in the future.

Until next time, this is Lauren saying “Let’s keep reading!” 📖✏️😻🖋️📚
