IS LIFE, LOVE & JOY WORTH FIGHTING FOR? YES. #LIVE4INFINITY #LIFEPROJECT

By Lauren V. Macaraeg #LaurenMacDoodles

“What’s the point of fighting depression when you work so hard to get up only to get knocked down again?” I sometimes ask myself in frustration.

I asked this question again this week. I have already been feeling like my old cheerful self again. After all, in spite of some rough spots, I successfully overcame the birthday blues this year with the help of God and my parents through #MyFavoriteThings Birthday Series 2018 mini project under my Live4Infinity Life Project. However, when I learned recently that an old recurring problem related to our business resurfaced again for the nth time, I felt exhaustion seep through my body and spirit. The challenge isn’t even that major actually, but it still discouraged me.

No matter how positive we try to be, no matter how many Bible verses we quote, come on, guys, let’s just admit it: Life sucks sometimes.

I scratched my head when I remembered everything we’ve been through the past several years. “Hindi na ba mauubos ang problema namin?” I asked the Lord. “Naniniwala naman ako na everything will work out for our good blah blah blah. Alam Niyo yan. Pero minsan nakakapagod lang kasi parang walang katapusan.” (Yep, ganyan kami mag-chickahan ni Lord. I don’t see the point of trying to sound holy when talking to Him. He already knows what’s in my heart anyway, light and darkness alike).

Pagkatapos kong mag-emote kay Lord (char!), I read a book to calm myself down. As I was flipping the pages of the novel, I got caught up in the riveting story. Suddenly, it occurred to me that if I abruptly stopped reading the book in the middle, I would never know how the story ends. I would miss all the twists and turns that would ultimately lead the characters to their final destinies (and their final ka-love teams! Haha). In short, bitin ang bookworm!

The Lord reminded me that, if I had given up on life years ago, I would have missed out on so many incredible experiences with so many incredible people. I would have missed out on living my own story.

I don’t regret choosing life in the past. I believe I will not regret it in the future if I keep choosing life today and tomorrow and the next day.

Let’s fight the good battle every single day. Life, love and joy are definitely worth fighting for.

Even if life is sometimes crappy, I still believe it’s worth hanging on. For the people and animals whom we love. For the people and animals who love us. For our very own selves.

Because sometimes, life is also kickass amazing.
