LAUREN’S NERDY BIRTHDAY I 2018 @ NATIONAL BOOK STORE BOOK BINGE BAZAAR (PART 3) #MYFAVORITETHINGS

By Lauren V. Macaraeg #LaurenMacDoodles

Books have been my best friends since I was a kiddie nerdy bookworm! 📚🤓🐛 So I was excited to explore the National Book Store Book Binge Bazaar on my birthday month 🎂📚❤

I may not have gotten the old favorite books I wanted, but I was glad to discover some new ones (plus, I got reunited with my favorite Betty from Archie comics!).

Thanks to Papa Boy for sponsoring my mini book shopping 🎁🎂📚 I used part of his birthday gift during the book fair.

Thanks to Mama Uni for feeding me super delicious homecooked food before I went to the book fair to energize me for my book marathon (I stayed until closing time!) 🍛📚💪 She also went with me to National Bookstore on other days since she couldn’t join me at the book fairs.

Thanks to Cutie the Cat, whose cheerful welcome home antics made me forget my aching feet 🐈😘🐱

Last but not least, special thanks to Ate L, a super nice & friendly National employee 🤗📚❤ Ate L comforted me when she found out that I was disappointed kasi naubusan ako ng “Percy Jackson’s Greek Gods” by Rick Riordan that was on sale, which was the main reason why I went to Book Binge Bazaar 😂.

(Yes, naubusan ako even if I went on the first night! At waley pa rin kahit abangers ako sa unboxing section 😂. Dapat pala mismong opening morning ang punta lol. But no regrets because at least I was able to help my mom that day. I even went back on the last day pero wala pa rin yung book. Anyway, I don’t get why some people say Filipinos don’t like to read! Ang dami-dami namang mga tao tuwing may book fair lol 😲).

Ate L cheered me up, not only by taking a photo of me with my books as I requested, but also by approaching me another time and volunteering to take another photo of me with more books 😍 I was surprised & touched! Ang saya din ng chickahan namin about the publishing world after I shared with her that I was also a writer ✏ I actually wanted a selfie with her as a remembrance but I think it was not allowed for work reasons. Even if I can’t remember her whole name (see, this is why I need visual aids! 😂), I will still remember her kindness 🌞 I do hope to catch up with this cheerful, thoughtful lady again next time.

“My birthday theme for 2018 is #MyFavoriteThings. It may not be obvious, but I have struggled with birthday blues ever since I was a kid. When I was a child and a teenager, I allowed myself to be swept away by the annual birthday blues, while my mom, my relatives and friends all valiantly and patiently tried to cheer me up each time my birthday comes around (and forced me to celebrate with them lol!). As I grew up into an adult and as I grew closer to God, I myself did my part to battle the birthday blues by trying to cheer up other people on my birthday and also by doing the things I like. Yet even if it may not be obvious, it’s still a struggle almost every year, although being more proactive has helped a lot. Some of my personal cheerleaders are still by my side, while some are now far away or are busy or have their own lives and challenges. I am thankful for all of them and how they helped me when I couldn’t help myself. I know they will all be proud of me that I am now trying to help myself too, while acknowledging that I can’t do it totally by myself at the same time. This year, as I try with the Lord’s help to heal and recover from physical and mental challenges alike, I deliberately simplified my birthday in line with my #Live4Infinity #LifeProject. I also intentionally chose to spend time with my favorite hoomans and cats, to do my favorite activities, and to surround myself with my favorite things. I am also trying to relax and chill more. I want to celebrate and appreciate the things that make life beautiful and interesting, not just on my birthday, but in the days to come.

”LAUREN’S NERDY BIRTHDAY I 2018 @ NATIONAL BOOK STORE BOOK BINGE BAZAAR” is PART 3 of 10 of #MYFAVORITETHINGS Birthday Series. I pray that this series will encourage others who may also struggle with birthday blues.

Thanks again to everybody for your birthday greetings. Thank you even more for being part of my life, my family and friends. Even if I may not see you or talk to you that often these days, I am grateful for each and every one of you and for the role you played in my real-life story and for the role I played in yours, then and now. We love you all!

Flying cat kisses from Lauren, Mama Uni and Cutie the Cat 🐈❤😻”
