MEET MY YOUNGEST READER, BABY MAKISIG

Meet my youngest reader! His name is Makisig Protomartir Tapang. He was only 3 weeks old when we met him at MIBF 2016.

We were surprised when his Mommy Michelle introduced Makisig to us during the book signing. He was so tiny!

It turns out that it hasn’t even been one month since this cute boy entered the world. Yet his parents were already excited to introduce him to the colorful universe of books. They bought an assortment of children’s books from our Lampara Books booth to read to Makisig. They had the books signed by me and my writer and illustrator friends during the book fair. Of course, they requested that we dedicate the books to Makisig himself!

To see this tiny baby and know that his mom would read my book to him at such a young age… it’s one of the best moments I’ve had as a writer.

Why? It’s simple: I’ve loved books long before I could read. My mom surrounded me with books since I was a baby. Learning that a book I wrote will be part of another baby’s early experiences makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. And it reminds me that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing.

I am thankful for the chance to do what I love. I’m hoping and praying for more books and more kiddie readers in the near future!
