UNDAS REFLECTIONS 2020 #THROWBACK

By Lauren V. Macaraeg

This is the first ever Undas season that we will not have any family reunions or visits to memorial parks because of the pandemic & typhoon. πŸ™πŸŒ³πŸ™Œ (#Throwback Pics Only) We miss celebrating the memories of our family in heaven together with our family on earth… as in celebrate! We always had potluck picnics in memorial parks, where each group was assigned to bring food or drinks. 🍲🍽️🍒 Sometimes, we also ate out at restaurants after visits to the cemetery or columbarium. Sharing some #Throwback photos to relive these family bonding times (just a fraction of the many family pics from different branches over the years!)

Our biggest annual family reunions always used to take place on All Saints’ Day season: these gatherings were usually even bigger than our Christmas family parties. It might sound strange to some, but not to us, because that’s what we were used to while growing up. And that’s how I always thought it was going to be.

It feels a little sad to skip an old-time family tradition this 2020, but we understand that it’s for our safety’s sake. And this unexpected social break gave me the time to reflect on something: family traditions that have lasted for so many years can possibly end at any time. As I look back, I realize that it was mainly because of the efforts of our parents, grandparents, titos, and titas to coordinate and make preparations that these reunions happened in the first place. And I’m starting to realize that, later on, our generation will need to step up to continue, not just our family traditions, but also our family connections and our family’s legacy of faith in God. To be honest, I’m not sure if we are ready for it, but maybe the Lord will prepare us for this major task in His own ways.

So to the older generations of our family, maraming salamat po sa lahat ng efforts, generosity, and hard work niyo para magsama-sama ang pamilya noon at ngayon. To the younger generations of our family, we have very big shoes to fill so let’s pray that God will help us as we help each other to keep the family together in the future. To all our friends and readers, I hope you will also start or continue your own family traditions.

We love and miss you all… plus all the Undas food that we should have been eating today lol. πŸ₯˜πŸ˜‚πŸ± Please stay safe and healthy so we can reconnect again in person after the pandemic (hopefully on earth and not in heaven muna!). Hugs and prayers, Lauren, Mama Uni & Cutiengs Cats. πŸ™πŸŒ³β€οΈπŸ“–πŸ˜»
