BIRTHDAY DOODLE 2017 FOR MY MOM #LAURENMACDOODLES #BTS

By Lauren V. Macaraeg

My mom didn’t want me to spend a lot for a gift on her birthday this year. So I just created a homemade gift for her!

Step 1: Doodle Time: My doodle of a birthday cake. To be honest, the cake I drew was a little lopsided ? Lol!

Yes, I did pay our suki printing shop to have my doodle printed on a sintra board, but I didn’t spend as much as I would have on a typical present.

The original Lauren and Mamu doodle

Making my latest birthday gift for my mom Uni reminded me of the times when I was a kid on a mission. Whenever a special occasion approached, I used to lock myself inside my room to hide my “top secret operations” from other people.

Step 2: Digitizing: I converted my doodles to digital form and edited them.

Achievement Unlocked: Level 1: The finished product! Digital edition.

What were these highly classified missions? My homemade art projects, of course! When I was a little girl, I used bond paper, crayons, scissors, construction paper, pencils, staplers and glue to create homemade cards and posters for my mother, grandmother and other family members. I even remember making pop-up cards a few times! What I can’t remember is how I made the pop-up cards before ? Paano nga ba?! My amateurish kiddie artworks were not exactly impressive, but it’s the effort that counts… or so I hoped, lol.

Step 3: Printing: I decided to have my doodle printed on a sintra board with a standee. Achievement Unlocked: Level 2: The finished product! Sintra board edition.

Anyway, fast forward to 2017: I excitedly presented my birthday doodle gift to my mom during our birthday dinner date. And guess what? I also got her a strawberry shortcake since it matches the doodle! Sort of like bringing the doodle to life hehe.

Strawberry shortcake IRL and in doodle form. Art imitating food imitating art!

At first I thought my mom wouldn’t like my doodle gift much, but it turns out she did. She even said it was cute ❤ Success!

But wait… aren’t parents obliged to say they like their children’s artwork no matter what?! ? What if the kid is already (a kid pretending to be) an adult?! Either way, success pa rin ? Haha!

Happy birthday to my favorite person in the universe, my Mama Uni ?❤? Trivia: Did you know that my mom is the original Queen of Cute & Pink Things? ??????????❤ Namana ko lang ang hilig ko sa kanya! She used to collect dainty trinkets imported from Japan when she was a student. She also used to surround me with Sanrio stuff when I was a baby. We both still like pink up to now. Di naman obvious, no? ? It’s true love! ? #Birthday #MamaAndMe #Family #Pink #LaurenMacDoodles #LaurenAndMamu #AmazingGrace #GodIsGood
