BLOOPERS: AKLAT AWARDS 2016 NOMINATIONS #LAURENMACKULIT

What did I look like when I found out I was nominated as Most Favorite Writer at the Aklat Awards 2016? Sweaty with messy hair ? Very dignified! Hahaha. Read on for 3 blooper moments!

Blooper No. 1: Walang Kamalay-malay

I got home late that night after a long day of bonding, eating, planning, eating, writing, eating, and exercising. I hung out with a writer friend for fun and work, settled down to write and edit, and went brisk walking to clear the cobwebs from my brain. I went home for a while to drop off my bag before heading back out to pick up my takeout order at a nearby restaurant. With my face still gleaming from perspiration, I sat down to rest and did a quick check on Facebook.

20161026_124841-1Blooper No. 1: Walang Kamalay-malay: Here’s my writer friend Jo and I taking random weird photos that day, totally clueless about Aklat Awards 2016 news! ?

I was excited to see that one of my friends was nominated as Most Favorite Writer! Of course, I liked her post. Out of curiousity, I decided to check the Lampara Books page to see who else was nominated. And I saw my name! I opened and closed my mouth like a goldfish. I didn’t expect to find my name in the lineup because I thought it was just the more experienced writers who were part of the nominations. It was kinda strange to see my profile there – complete with my picture! – especially since I had no idea I was even included. Plus, the post reminded me of reality show profiles introducing the contestants. Lol.

It turns out that my publisher already tagged me in the Most Favorite Writer album hours before, but I didn’t receive a notification! Which is ironic because Facebook usually notifies me even about random tags on cat posts and jokes hahaha. But all’s well that ends well. Kahit wala akong kamalay-malay sa umpisa!

Blooper No. 2: Suklay

I was overwhelmed by the good news about the Aklat Awards 2016 so I only told my parents about it during that first night. I called my mom on the phone, since she wasn’t home yet. I also messaged my dad on Viber. I wanted to savor the feeling first so I didn’t share about my Most Favorite Writer nomination over social media right away.

When my mom got home that night, I was hunting for my comb because I wanted to remove the tangles in my hair before I took a shower. She helped me look for the comb but we couldn’t find it!

“Nominated nga ako sa Aklat Awards,” I groaned. “Wala naman akong suklay!”

Crazy hair pa more! Welcome to my life ?

Blooper No. 3: Wala Pa Rin Kamalay-malay!

Talk about dense.

After getting messages from friends who wanted to vote, I voted at the Aklat Awards 2016 myself so I could be able to answer other people’s questions on the voting process. While checking out the Lampara Books section of the voting form, I vaguely noticed that Sinemadyika was listed in one of the categories. But for some reason, it did not really sink in or register in my mind that our book was also a nominee until Lampara Books posted the Most Favorite Children’s Book photo album on its Facebook page last Friday. Again, my publisher tagged me but I didn’t get a notification from Facebook so I only saw the pictures the next day.

Wala pa rin kamalay-malay talaga! Hahaha.

Anyway, it’s been a fun ride. Thanks again to all who voted for Sinemadyika and for me, crazy hair and all 😉
