MIBF 2016 HIGHLIGHTS: #WRITERSLIFE EDITION (PART 1)

We writers and illustrators of Lampara Books were invited by our publisher to the annual book signing during the Manila International Book Fair 2016. I can honestly say it was worth braving the legendary Manila traffic to go!

My favorite part of book signings is meeting kiddie and kids-at-heart readers in person <3 I enjoy how I usually find something in common with them!

I discovered that one of my kiddie readers wants to be an astronaut… while I also dreamed of being an astronaut when I was a kid! A young woman who bought my book actually works at my old school. Another young lady I met is a staff member at a Christian academy, which reminds me of another old school of mine.

We writers often write for an anonymous audience. Events like this matter to me because these are the times when our readers become very real to us. It reminds me why I do what I do: To spread the joy of God to others. Which often leads to a double portion of that joy being poured back to me 🙂

All of you – our readers, my family and friends, and my colleagues – give me the courage to follow my dreams in spite of all the challenges. And believe me, there are a lot of challenges, even if it may not be obvious when you see us cheerfully chatting with readers during book signings. But it’s all worth it!
